Firm founder Chuck Akre built his reputation in the mutual fund industry as a subadvisor to the FBR Focus Fund. Akre resigned that mandate in September 2009 to create its own mutual fund family.
Akre's first fund is the Akre Focus Fund. The fund opened on August 31, 2009 and offers retail [AKRIX] and institutional [AKREX] shares. The fund is organized as part of the Professionally Managed Portfolios Trust [SEC Link].
Akre Capital Management was founded in 1989. Chuck Akre call his investing approach the "three-legged stool."
As of March May 31, 2019, the firm has a total of $11.6 billion in AUM.
