Background:

Susan Byrne founded Westwood Management (Westwood Holding Group's RIA) in 1983, and she continues to lead the firm today as chairman and chief investment officer, alongside president and CEO Brian Casey.
WHG went public in 2002, and in recent years the asset manager has become an acquirer. In 2009 the Dallas-based firm bought the asset management side of Baxter Financial Corporation, which notably included the $52.62 million Philadelphia Fund, a mutual fund with roots going back to W. Wallace Alexander's Securities Fund launched in 1923. In 2010 Westwood gobbled up McCarthy Group Advisors, an RIA with $1.1 billion in assets, including $64.5 million in the McCarthy Multi-Cap Stock Fund.
Westwood offers asset management services to both high net worth individuals and institutions, and manages more than $12.5 billion in total. That business includes sub-advisory mandates for mutual funds. (Westwood has sub-advised for Liberty and USAA, among others.) It also offers its own suite of seven mutual funds, the WHG Funds, including both equity and fixed income offerings.
