On November 14, 2016, Gamco affiliate Teton Advisors unveiled a deal to buy Keeley Asset Management Corp. from TA Associates. The deal, expected to close in Q1 2017, will rebrand Kamco as Keeley Teton Advisors, which will be a subsidiary to Teton.
On August 20, 2015, Kamco unveiled a deal that would put ownership of its parent company, Joley Corp, in the hands of private equity firm TA Associates. The deal, slated to close in September 2015, comes after founder John Keeley himself died on June 4, 2015. TA already has a minority stake in Kamco dating back to 2008, though the Keeley family has held onto a controlling, majority stake in the company. After the deal closes and TA takes over, the plan is for some Kamco employees to gain non-controlling equity stakes in the company over time.
In 1977, John L. Keeley, Jr. founded Keeley Investment Corp., a broker-dealer, and in 1982 he launched an RIA, Keeley Asset Management Corp. (Kamco). The mutual fund shop specializes in value equity investing. It entered the mutual fund business in October 1993 with the launch of the Keeley Small Cap Value Fund. Starting in August 2005, the company commenced an effort to broaden its product lineup, which resulted in the launch of six additional open-end mutual funds: the Keeley Small Cap Dividend Value Fund, the Keeley Small-Mid Cap Value Fund, the Keeley Mid Cap Value Fund, the Keeley Mid Cap Dividend Value Fund, the Keeley All Cap Value Fund, and the Keeley Alternative Value Fund.
