Background:

On February 10, 2021, William Blair unveiled a deal to buy ICM from BrightSphere. The deal is expected to close in Q2 2021.
Baltimore-based Investment Counselors of Maryland, LLC was founded in 1972 as a subsidiary of Equitable Bancorporation. ICM management spun the firm out in 1982, and in 1986, it was acquired by United Asset Management. (UAM was later acquired by Old Mutual Asset Management, which eventually became Brightsphere, ICM's current owner.)
ICM is an active, institutional, bottom-up manager that specializes on team-based investing in small- and mid-cap value equities. The firm offers a single, institutional mutual fund, the ICM Small Company Portfolio, which launched in 1989.
