Background:
|
Former stockbroker Charles Brandes founded Brandes Investment Partners in March 1974 after being inspired by a meeting with the father of value investing, Benjamin Graham. Naturally, Brandes' eponymous firm is known for its focus on the value style of investing.
Brandes distributes its mutual funds to U.S. investors primarily through wrap-fee programs. Institutional International Equity Fund, its largest fund, launched in 1997.
The firm is structured as a limited partnership, with only current employees as LPs. Brandes himself passed the CEO reins to Glenn Carlson in 2002, yet Brandes remained chairman of the firm until retiring in 2018. Carlson passed the CEO reins to Brent Woods in 2013, yet Carlson stayed on with the company. When Brandes retired in 2018, Carlson and Jeff Busby took (indirectly) as general partners of the firm.
