Majority-owned by Affiliated Managers Group since 2009, Harding Loevnerwas founded in 1989 by Daniel Harding and David Loevner. The two, alongwith Simon Hallett, previously led the expansion of the Rockefellers' investment program into markets in Asia and Europe. Harding retired from Harding Loevner in 2003.
Harding Loevner entered the mutual fund business in 1996.
In July 2008, Affiliated Managers Group announced it was buying a 60-percent stake in Harding Loevner. Due to market conditions in the months that followed, the two parties in January 2009 agreed to restructure and postpone the transaction. Then in August 2009, AMG and Harding Loevner moved forward with the deal. The remaining 40 percent is owned by a group of Harding Loevner employees.
