Korean War veteran Richard F. Shelton founded the California Investment Trust in 1985. The funds are advised by CCM Partners and cover a range of asset classes, from bonds to indexed equities.
Until January 1, 2012, CCM Partners used California Investment Trust as its dba. Then CCM adopted a new dba, Shelton Capital Management, in honor of its founder. Shelton still has a turnkey 401(k) business that operates under the California Investment Trust brand.
In 2014 San Francisco, California-based Shelton expanded into Denver, Colorado. Since then, Shelton has shifted to Denver as its home base, though the firm still has offices in San Francisco and in Greenwich, Connecticut.
As of October 2018, Shelton boasted about 35 people and 14 mutual funds, plus SMAs, with about $2 billion in total AUM.
