In August 2017, Scottish multinationals Standard Life plc and Aberdeen Asset Management PLC merged to create Standard Life Aberdeen plc. The combined asset management arm became Aberdeen Standard Investments.
Aberdeen Asset Management Inc. was the U.S. arm of Aberdeen, Scotland-headquartered Aberdeen Asset Management PLC, which was founded in 1983 through a management buyout.
Aberdeen specialized in fundamental, bottom-up investing. Its clients include a host of institutional investors as well as investors served by a wide variety of intermediaries.
History In October 2007, Aberdeen acquired Nationwide Fund Advisors' active equity investment management business. The reorganization of 26 Nationwide funds into newly formed Aberdeen funds became complete in July 2008.
In 2009, Aberdeen's parent, Aberdeen Asset Management PLC, acquired a portion of Credit Suisse's global investors traditional asset management business in the U.S., Europe and Japan. In the U.S., the acquisition brought five open-end funds and five closed-end funds to Aberdeen.
Aberdeen staffers moved to the U.S. unit's new headquarters at Mellon Bank Center in July 2009.
In the summer of 2010, Aberdeen acquired four funds from Bank of Hawaii's Pacific Capital Funds. The deal moved half a billion of assets to Aberdeen.
In October 2011, Aberdeen acquired two funds from Credit Suisse Asset Management.
On May 13, 2013, Aberdeen bought publicly-traded U.S. mutual fund shop Artio Global Investors.In August 2017, Standard Life and Aberdeen merged to create Standard Life Aberdeen, and their combined asset management arm became Aberdeen Standard.
In April 2018, Aberdeen Standard bought the U.S. business of ETF Securities and brought the team on board.
In May 2018, Aberdeen Standard bought the closed-end and open-end mutual fund business of Alpine Woods Capital Investors and brought several Alpine PMs on board.
