The folks at a San Francisco boutique are celebrating the tin anniversary of their first exchange-traded fund.
Kyle Parker, president of
EMQQ Global LLC, notes that last month the team celebrated the tenth birthday of the firm's flagship
EMQQ Emerging Markets Internet ETF (EMQQ on the
NYSE Arca). EMQQ Global serves as fund sponsor and index provider, while Exchange Traded Concepts, LLC (
ETC [
profile] serves as investment advisor, and
Penserra Capital Management LLC serves as subadvisor.
EMQQ's inception date was November 12,
2014, when it was called EMQQ the Emerging Markets Internet & Ecommerce ETF. (The fund rebranded on July 16 of this year.) It comes with an expense ratio of 86 basis points, and as of yesterday (December 9) it has $379 million in AUM.
EMQQ tracks
EMQQ the Emerging Markets Internet Index (fka EMQQ the Emerging Markets Internet & Ecommerce Index prior to May 30, 2024).
Dustin Lewellyn, chief investment officer of Penserra, has PMed the ETF since inception. The PM team now also includes:
Christine Johanson, director at Penserra, who joined the fund on August 22, 2024; and
Ernesto Tong, managing director at Penserra, who joined the fund in 2015.
Parker describes EMQQ as providing investors with "unparalleled access to the rapid, tech-driven transformation across emerging markets." He notes that, since inception, as of November 15, the ETF's 10-year is handily ahead of that of its benchmark, iShares EEM (46.9 percent versus 5.9 percent). (EMQQ Global followed up EMQQ with the launch of
FMQQ in 2021 and
INQQ in 2022.
INQQ now holds $55 million, while
FMQQ now holds $30 million.)
"From China's internet revolution to India's mobile boom and Southeast Asia’s fintech surge, EMQQ captures the dynamic rise of digital economies globally," Parker tells
MFWire in an emailed statement. "The 'Emerging Market' category has been broken for some time now, and it seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same. This is why we tried to break the mold with EMQQ."
EMQQ and its two siblings are series of
Exchange Traded Concepts Trust. The ETFs' other service providers include: Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. (
BBH) as custodian, dividend disbursing agent, securities lending agent, and transfer agent;
Chapman and Cutler LLP as counsel;
Cohen & Company, Ltd. as independent accounting firm; ETC Platform Services, LLC as administrator; and
Solactive AQ as index administrator.
