A 22-year
BlackRock veteran is preparing to take over a publicly traded, institutional bank's $1-trillion-AUM (as of December 31) asset management arm.

Michael O'Grady, CEO of
Northern Trust,
confirms that
Daniel Gamba will join the Chicago-based firm on April 3 as president of
Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) [
profile]. Gamba will report to O'Grady and will join Northern Trust's management group.
Gamba most recently served as co-head of fundamental equities at
BlackRock [
profile] (where he also served on the firm's global operating, human capital, and portfolio management group executive committees).

At Northern Trust, O'Grady lauds Gamba for bringing "a track record of delivering strong results."

The appointment of Gamba comes about eight months after Shundrawn Thomas
stepped down as president of NTAM.
Gamba joined Barclays Global Investors in 2000, serving as director of global strategy and CEO for Latin America and the Caribbean. He stayed on when BlackRock bought BGI in 2009, later leading the Americas institutional iShares business and leading active equity product strategy before becoming co-head of fundamental equities in 2020. Earlier, he worked with A.T. Kearney, American Express, and Procter & Gamble. He is an alumnus of Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and of the Universidad Catolica del Peru.
