On Tuesday,
Asoka Woehrmann, CEO of
DWS [
profile], and
Tim Harris, president of business operations for the
Los Angeles Lakers,
unveiled their new partnership. DWS will be the Lakers' official global investment sponsor.
"Our partnership with this iconic organization accelerates DWS' transformation into a truly global brand," Woehrmann states.
"Like the Lakers, DWS acts locally but thinks globally," Harris states. "Their services are custom and accessible, but their reach is expansive."
Indeed, the Lakers and DWS folks note that the Lakers are popular here in the U.S. (they lay claim to having "the largest social media following among all North American professional sports teams"), in Asia (where the team estimates it has 199 million fans), and in Europe (where they claim to being the most popular NBA team in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK). Watch for DWS to sponsor: the Lakers' "In the Paint" program showcasing the original fine arts work of BIPOC artists in the LA area; the Lakers' international court refurbishment project; and the Junior Lakers Clinics.
