Szilagyi Hires an Insti Sales Exec

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

Jerry Szilagyi has hired a sales executive to target large RIAs, private banks, TAMPs, and trust departments.

Robert Alan "Bob" Armstrong
Catalyst Funds, Rational Funds, and Strategy Shares
Managing Director of Institutional Sales
Szilagyi, CEO of Catalyst Funds, confirms that Bob Armstrong recently joined the Huntington, New York-based mutual fund firm as managing director of institutional sales. Armstrong will also support Catalyst's Rational Funds and Strategy Shares siblings.

Armstrong most recently served as director of institutional sales at Swan Global Investments. Jamie Atkinson, managing director and head of distribution at Swan, did not immediately return a call for comment.

"This is really our first focus on the institutional channels ... We haven't really had anybody focusing on the institutional distribution channels up to this point," Szilagyi tells MFWire. "We've been almost exclusively focused on FAs that deal with retail high net worth. We have had some dealings with institutional, but it hasn't been a focus."

Szilagyi lauds Armstrong as "an incredibly talented and experienced individual."

"We talked to a number of people, and we just liked the way Bob seems to be able to be a self-starter," Szilaygi says, describing Armstrong as "really be able to get out there and hit the ground running."

"He's represented products similar to ours in the past," Szilagyi adds.

An alumnus of Norwich University, Armstrong most recently spent more than five years with Swan. Prior to that, he spent eight years with Sentinel Investments, where he served in multiple roles, eventually, rising to vice president of institutional sales.
