John D. Carifa, ceo, president and coo of
Alliance Capital Holdings LP has resigned according to Dow Jones newswires.
Michael J. Laughlin, chairman of the company’s mutual-fund distribution unit has also stepped down.
Alliance is cooperating with the SEC and the New York State Attorney General’s office as part of an investigation into the market timing activities of
Daniel Calugar, a Las Vegas investor who ran
Security Brokerage, and Canary Capital Partners founder
Edward J. Stern.
In September the company fired two executives,
Gerald T. Malone, manager of the
AllianceBernstein Technology Fund, and
Charles B. Schaffran, head of marketing for Alliance's hedge fund division.
