The founder of a religious mutual fund shop in the Midwest is handing off one of his hats. Yet he still has two more.

George Schwartz of Plymouth, Michigan-based
Schwartz Investment Counsel [
profile]
confirms the promotion of Schwartz president
Richard Platte to chief investment officer. Platte will also continue to serve as president, while Schwartz himself will continue to serve as chairman and CEO.
Schwartz Investment Counsel is the investment advisor to the Catholic-based
Ave Maria Mutual Funds.
Schwartz himself had previously been CIO, too. Yet
Mike Richter, director of marketing at Schwartz, notes that Platte and Schwartz work together on those duties and that the title is "really a formality".
As president, Platte already "handles day-to-day responsibilities of the firm," Richter tells
MFWire. He also co-PMs three of the company's five mutual funds, including its $773-million flagship, the
four-star Ave Maria Rising Dividend Fund. Platte first joined Schwartz in 1987, seven years after Schwartz founded the company.
Schwartz has $1.9 billion in total AUM and about 21 employees.
