This high-flying young DJ almost worked at
BlackRock [
profile]. Now he pulls down $2 million laying down mad beats. Wait, what?
Ryan Mac of
Forbes profiles Justin Blau, whose stage name is
3LAU (pronounced the same way as his last name), a 24-year-old from Las Vegas who dropped out of Washington University in St. Louis after his junior year to become a full-time DJ.
Here's the BlackRock wrinkle. The way
Forbes tells it, "the exact moment [Blau] chose his career" was when a BlackRock recruiter called him up junior year "to fast track him into a lucrative career."
"I'm not going to be able to work with you this summer," Blau tells
Forbes he said to the recruiter. "I'm kind of making dance music."
Once Blau started raking in good money as a DJ, a microeconomics professor actually encouraged him to pursue the passion full time and helped convince his parents. Now,
Forbes reports, "even the BlackRock recruiter asked for links to download his music."
So, add another career to the list aspiring fundsters might consider instead: DJ.
