The folks behind a marketing strategy consulting shop and an RIA-focused website are teaming up to offer asset managers an in-depth look at the rapidly growing RIA channel.
Dave Swanson, founder and managing partner of
SwanDog, confirms his alliance with
Penton's WealthManagement.com. They've surveyed about 400 RIAs, and they're preparing to release a deep-dive RIA channel study in May.
SwanDog previously did what Swanson calls "a very light study" on the RIA channel four and a half years ago, teaming up with Morningstar.
"It was one of the most popular studies that people came to us for," Swanson tells
MFWire. "It's the least homogenous of the channels."
Swanson praises the Penton team as "great partners" for SwanDog, with "valuable knowledge" of, and "a long history in," the RIA channel.
"[O]ur knowledge of the RIA market, and access through our various media properties, coupled with SwanDog's industry marketing experience, will make for a valuable piece of research on this audience," states

The survey on which the deep-dive report is based includes both quantitative and qualitative components. Issues explored include: the challenges RIAs face (which can translate into opportunities for asset managers to help those RIAs); RIAs' relationships with wholesalers; how RIAs consume information; RIAs' use of online and social media; and more.
