A major milestone, of sorts, has hit the ETF world today.

AdvisorShares [profile] plans to launch the active Athena International Bear ETF on Friday. It will be the first ETF to short international equities at all levels of market cap, IndexUniverse reporter Hannah Tool writes.

It will sell securities short and have the ability to invest in other ETFs or ETNs; a creative strategy, Tool points out. As ETFs get more and more exotic, AdvisorShares and its partner in the ETF, AthenaInvest Advisors seem to be keeping pace.
