Weiss, Peck & Greer recruited
Nassos Michas from
Merrill Lynch to serve as new president and chief executive officer for the New York-based investment manager.
Michas, the former chairman of Merrill Lynch Banks, is expected to strengthen the Robeco subsidiary's alternative investment positioning.
"As Robeco has declared alternative investments a top strategic priority, it is a very timely moment for Nassos Michas," said
Pieter Korteweg, president and chief executive officer of the Rotterdam-based giant, in a statement. "We count on him ... in particular to enhance our global position in alternative asset management."
Michas joined up with Merrill in 1974, managing domestic operations for several of the organization's functional arms. Michas holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MS in systems theory and control from Berkeley.
Robeco announced a high-profile purchase of Harbor Funds this week.
