FleetBoston and Aetna Life were among three companies sued in New York Federal Court on behalf of descendants of American slaves, reports USA Today. The suit does specify sought after damages and was brought by Deadria Farmer-Paellmann, a New York legal researcher and activist.
Though seemingly a legal reach, the suit would create complex liabilities if it is successful. Up to 100 more companies may be named under the suit. The complaint asks for restitution for unpaid slave labor and a share of corporate profits derived from slave labor, reported the paper.
