SEC: Reserve Bent Out of Shape

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

Bruce Bent and his team just gained another headache: the SEC. Officials at the Reserve revealed that the SEC had sent the New York City-based fund firm a Wells Notice.

For the full story on the the death of the Reserve and its Primary Fund, see MFWire's timeline.

The notice is a heads up from the SEC investigators that they are investigating the money fund manager and its senior executives over unspecified "violations of certain provisions of the federal securities laws."

The move comes three months after several private firms filed lawsuits against the Reserve over its Primary Fund breaking the buck in the wake of Lehman Brothers' bankruptcy.
