Social investing may pay. The Domini 400 Social Index (DSI 400) may have dropped 12.07 percent in 2001, trailing the 11.88 percent decline in the S&P 500 by 19 basis points, but it topped the index for the trailing five- and ten-year periods. The DSI 400 gained 13.77 percent annually from 1991, compared to 12.95 percent for the S&P 500.
