Unsurprisingly,
Columbia is preparing to distribute the mutual funds of a fund family it recently acquired. Just don't make the wrong phone call based on a recently published report's headline.
InvestmentNews' Sue Asci wrote in "Columbia to sell Excelsior Funds" that "Columbia Management Distributors, Inc. of Boston will begin selling Excelsior Funds October 1." Since the story is about Columbia's sales force literally selling the
Excelsior funds' shares and BofA has insisted that it is not selling the entire unit, perhaps 'selling' should have been replaced by 'distributing.' (See "
Post BofA-US Trust Deal, What Will Happen to Excelsior Funds?", July 11, 2007.)
InvestmentNews has since changed the article's title to "Columbia to market Excelsior Funds".
