Despite denials from T. Rowe Price officials that they are in talks to acquire MFS Funds, a second published report has hit that the fund firm is among the bidders for the SunLife unit. The
Boston Business Journal reported on Friday that the fund firm was among those that bid for MFS.
That report was picked up in Saturday's
Boston Herald and it names Ameriprise as a second bidder. It adds that the price for the firm could reach $6 to $8 billion.
The MFWire.com first published a story that Ameriprise and T. Rowe Price had submitted bids for MFS last Monday.
After that story was published, a T. Rowe Price spokesperson clarified that "T. Rowe Price is not having any conversations with MFS." The spokesperson had declined to comment for the initial story. The fund firm provided a similar denial to the Boston Business Journal.
