The folks at a four-year-old, Chicago-based, subadvised, active ETF shop and a nearby ally are celebrating a key milestone that could open distribution doors for their buffered ETF series.

Last month,
Mike Loukas, CEO and principal of
TrueMark Investments, LLC [
profile], and
Eric Metz, president and CEO of
SpiderRock Advisors, LLC,
trumpeted the recent three-year anniversary of the
TrueShares Structured Outcome Series. As of yesterday, the series' 12 ETFs had about $89.93 million in combined AUM. The TrueMark and SpiderRock teams lay claim to the series being "the industry's only uncapped buffered ETF series."
The inception date for the first TrueShares Structured Outcome Series ETF, the
TrueShares Structured Outcome (July) ETF (JULZ on the
Cboe BZX Exchange, Inc.), was June 30, 2020. As of yesterday, it had grown to $16.49 million in AUM, making it the second biggest fund in the series.
"JULZ has established itself as a pioneering vehicle able to both mitigate drawdowns and thrive during up cycles in the market," Loukas states.
The TrueShares Structured Outcome ETFs are series of
Listed Funds Trust. They come with an expense ratio of 79 basis points.
TrueMark serves as invesmtent advisor to the TrueShares Structure Outcome Series ETFs, and SpiderRock serves as subadvisors. Metz and
Fred Sloneker, a portfolio manager at SpiderRock, PM the funds.
The TrueShares Structured Outcome ETFs are actively managed but still offer daily disclosures of holdings. They are designed to track the
S&P 500 Price Return Index, while using options to buffer against the index's potential losses of eight to twelve percent over a 12-month period. (Each fund's 12-month period starts on a different month, hence there are 12 funds in the series.)
Metz describes the TrueShares Structured Outcome ETFs as "a unique take on the buffered approach that can be seamlessly incorporated into [FAs'] portfolios, providing enhanced diversification and risk management capabilities."
"We will continue to advance our product development and offerings to remain at the forefront of this growing space by empowering investors with unrivaled tools for capital preservation and a dedicated focus on risk-adjusted returns," Metz states.
The TrueShares Structured Outcome Series' other vendors include:
Cohen & Company, Ltd. as independent accounting firm; ACA Group's
Foreside Fund Services, LLC as distributor and principal underwriter;
Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP as counsel; U.S. Bancorp Fund Services, LLC (dba
U.S. Bank Global Fund Services) as administrator and transfer agent; and U.S. Bank National Association as custodian.
