Tim Buckley isn't mandating that
Vanguard [
profile] employees get COVID-19 vaccines, but he is offering them an incentive to do so.
| Mortimer J. "Tim" Buckley Vanguard President, CEO | |
Bloomberg broke the news that Vanguard will offer a $1,000 bonus to U.S. employees who get vaccinated by October 1 and show proof. (Employees who have already been vaccinated are also eligible.) About 16,500 of Vanguard's 17,300 employees are based in the U.S. and thus eligible for the vaccine bonus program at the Valley Forge, Pennsylvania-based mutual fund firm. (So, Vanguard could pay out up to about $16.5 million through the program.)
The news was picked up by a host of other publications (including
CBS,
Citywire,
CNBC,
CNN,
Fox Business, the
New York Post, and the
Philadelphia Inquirer), which contrasted Vanguard's bonus plan with the mandates being used by some employers.
