Today,
Jan van Eck, CEO of
VanEck [
profile],
confirmed the
creation of a new head of digital assets research role, filled by new hire
Matthew Sigel. The move comes two days after the VanEck team
unveiled the
launch of the
VanEck Digital Transformation ETF (DAPP on the Nasdaq).
Sigel most recently served as an equity strategist at CLSA.
Van Eck puts the hiring of Sigel in the context of the "strong potential" of digital assets-enabled companies, like crypocurrency exchanges and mining companies." Van Eck lauds Sigel for bringing "the experience and the expertise necessary to play a critical role." Sigel, for his part, praises VanEck as long being "at the cutting edge of the digital assets ecosystem."
"As the opportunities within digital assets continue to widen beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum, it is essential that we, as a firm, are well-positioned to research, analyze and share in-depth insights with our investors and the broader marketplace," Van Eck states.
Before spending more than nine years at CLSA, Sigel served as an analyst and PM at AllianceBernstein under Cathie Wood (who later founded Ark, a big thematic ETF shop). Earlier, he worked at Bloomberg and CNBC. He is an alumnus of Harvard.
