Seven years in, an ETF entrepreneur is adding a strategy chief to her $59-billion-AUM shop.

Last week,
Cathie Wood (founder, CEO, and chief investment officer of
Ark Investment Management LLC [
profile]),
confirmed that
Jana Haines joined the firm on March 1. Haines now serves as Ark's chief strategy officer, a newly created role at the New York City-based fund firm.
Haines most recently served as managing director, head of index products in the Americas and EMEA and global head of fixed income indexes at
MSCI Inc.. Spokespeople at MSCI did not immediately return calls for comment.
Wood lauds Haines as "a highly respect finance veteran with deep connections across the financial services industry and a proven track record of executive leadership and experience."
"As Chief Strategy Officer, she will complement our existing leadership team as we evaluate future growth opportunities and scale ARK's business," Woods states.
"I look forward to working closely with Cathie and the talented ARK team to capture, drive and scale strategic business opportunities," Haines states.
The hiring of Haines comes about two months after Wood
extinguished an option, held by one an outside backer, to increase its stake in Ark.
Haines spent more than 14 years in leadership roles at MSCI,
rising in 2016 to head of equity index products for the Americas and then extending her reach again in 2020. Prior to that, she worked with HVB, Ritchie Capital Management, Private Equity Group LLC, NationsBanc CRT, and CRT. She is an alumna of the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.
