1,500 fundsters are gathering in our nation's capital this week for a mutual fund industry trade group's diamond anniversary conference.
Today the Investment Company Institute (
ICI) chief
Paul Schott Stevens and his team will
kick off the 60th annual ICI General Membership Meeting (
2018 ICI GMM). The three-day conference is being held at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. and will also include three parallel ICI events: the 2018
ICI Operations and Technology Conference, the 2018
ICI Mutual Fund Compliance Programs Conference, and the 2018
IDC Fund Directors Workshop (the IDC is the ICI's affiliated
Independent Directors Council).
The formal GMM program is scheduled to begin this afternoon with a welcome from
Stuart Parker, chairman of the GMM planning committee and president and CEO of
PGIM Investments.
James Gorman, chairman and CEO of
Morgan Stanley (both a wirehouse and a fund firm, as well as a big investment bank of course) will also deliver a keynote address at GMM this afternoon. Today's sessions will conclude with Stevens (president and CEO of the ICI) interviewing
David Rubenstein, co-founder and co-executive chairman of a private equity giant, the
Carlyle Group.
The end-of-day welcome reception (sponsored by
Northern Trust) and legal forum will feature presentations on "A New Fiduciary World" (by
George Michael Gerstein,
David Grim, and
Lawrence Stadulis of
Stradley Ronon) and on securities lending (by
