SPDR ETFs. Thompson reports directly to Tobin, global head of SPDR ETFs. Previously based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Thompson will now be based in Boston, home of SSgA. Her role spans intermediary and institutional channels as well as strategic relationships.
Thompson, co-founder of
Women in ETFs, most recently served as president and CEO of her own consulting firm,
Thompson Peak Advisory.
An alumna of both the University of Washington and of UC Davis, Thompson previously worked for the other ETF titans. She spent eight years at Vanguard and then nine years at BGI and BlackRock (which bought BGI). She left BlackRock in 2016 and started Thompson Peak Advisory.
Tobin praises Thompson for her "wealth of knowledge" and her "leadership, strategic insight and deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing US investors."
"Through her involvement in Women in ETFs, Sue is recognized for recruiting, developing and mentoring future leaders and has played a significant role in nurturing female talent across the ETF industry."
Thompson, for her part, calls SSgA "a pioneer in the ETF industry."
SSgA's SPDR arm now has more than 240 ETFs with more than $629 billion in combined AUM.
