A mutual fund entrepreneur in Oregon is leaning increasingly on technology, more so than on traditional wholesalers.
"We've added one and we'll add another technology person,"
John Lekas, president and CEO of
Leader Capital, tells
MFWire. "We're putting our efforts into technology more than anything, and communications."
"We're gravitating more toward electronic communications," Lekas adds. "The traditional wholesaler really should be more for existing customers and your more important relationships rather than necessarily trying to bring in new business."
Portland-based Leader, which Lekas started in 1997 and which entered the mutual fund business in 2005, specializes in fixed income investing. The 11-person team now has nearly $300 million in AUM and offers three funds. They focus on the RIA channel for distribution, though their wares are also available through a variety of full-service broker-dealer platforms, too.
