by: Adena Baichan

Cindy L. Sweeting, president of Templeton Investment Counsel, LLC [profile] and director of portfolio management at Templeton Global Equity Group (TGEG), is retiring after 33 years in the industry, effective December 31, 2017. Effective January 1, 2018, her director of portfolio management duties will be taken over by Tony Docal, current executive vice president and deputy director of research, who has been a PM of the Templeton's Global Equity Series and International Equity Series funds since 2003. Docal will also take over as president of Templeton Investment Counsel and will become director of portfolio management.

A spokeswoman from Templeton told MFWire that neither Sweeting nor Docal were immediately available for comment.

Through her 20 years of experience with the firm, Sweeting previously served as TGEG's director of research from 2003 to 2007. She then became president at Templeton Global Advisors Limited and lead portfolio manager for Templeton Growth Fund and Templeton Growth (Euro) Fund from 2008 to 2011. Sweeting served as director of portfolio management in 2008, and in 2010, was named president of Templeton Investment Counsel, LLC.

Before Templeton, Sweeting was senior vice president of investments at McDermott International Investments Co., Inc., in Nassau, Florida. She graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University, earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a focus in finance. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.

Beginning his financial services career in 1979, Docal once served as vice president and director at Evergreen Funds, principal and co-founder of Docal Associates, and assistant treasurer in the mergers and acquisitions department at JPMorgan. He joined Templeton in 2001.
