MFWire has learned that Spina will replace
Sandy Cavanaugh, who retired earlier this year after seven years with the firm.
Spina joins Russell from
Pioneer Investments, where he was executive vice president and head of U.S. intermediary distribution for almost two years. Prior to that, he spent over a decade at Voya Investment Management (formerly ING Investment Management) focused on sales, marketing and product.
A spokesperson for Pioneer was not immediately available for comment regarding plans for filling the open role.
Starting December 5, Spina will lead Russell's U.S. advisor-focused business and spearhead its expansion, with a focus on providing advisors with multi-asset investing solutions.
"Mark is joining our firm at a pivotal time," states Russell CEO
Len Brennan. "A new awareness of the importance of fiduciary advice is putting multi-asset investing at the forefront of the solutions that wealth managers are leveraging for their clients."
Given his experience, he's fully aware of the challenges currently facing advisors.
"Advisors are tackling the forces of change on multiple fronts, from aging clients and the generational transfer of wealth, to the uncertain regulatory landscape and continued market volatility," says Spina in statement issued by the company.
Spina will be based in Russell Investments New York office. He will report directly to Brennan.
