Standard Life Investments, the asset management arm of Edinburgh-based Standard Life plc, just made a key hire on this side of the pond.
Standard Life Investments has about $327 billion in AUM and more than 1,100 employees worldwide.

Jim Sia joined Standard Life Investments earlier this month as director of subadvisory and defined contribution, our sister publication
401kWire reports. Sia is a veteran of the institutional side of the defined contribution investment-only business.
In his newly-created role, Sia now reports to
Eric Roberts, head of U.S. business development at Standard Life Investments, a company spokeswoman confirms. The spokeswoman puts Sia's hiring in the context of "the ongoing growth and expansion of Standard Life Investments in North America."
Sia himself did not immediately return a call for comment on his new role.
Sia most recently served as DC chief of
GMO [
profile] before
leaving earlier this year. He previously worked at Wellington, Schwab, CS First Boston, and Fidelity, and is an alumnus of Babson and of Boston University.
