A veteran mutual fund columnist just signed on with an advisor-focused trade publication.
John Waggoner joined
Crain's New York City-based
InvestmentNews on Monday as a senior columnist and mutual funds reporter.
Waggoner, based in Vienna, Virginia (outside Washington, D.C.), spent more than 25 years as a reporter and columnist with
USA Today, writing about mutual funds, personal finance, stocks, bonds, and the economy.

MFWire could not immediately reach
InvestmentNews editor
Fred Gabriel for comment on the move.
Waggoner confirms that he took a buyout from
USA Today in May 2015. Since then, he tells
MFWire, he has done "quite a bit of freelancing." Yet
InvestmentNews struck a chord for Waggoner.
"I like kind of having a bully pulpit," Waggoner says. "It's a slightly different audience but I don't think that it's that different."
Waggoner says he'll still be covering "trends in the fund industry and trends in the market in general." Yet there will be some changes.
"I'll be traveling more, which is nice," Waggoner says. "I'll be able to go out and visit sources."
"I understand there's a great big mutual fund industry in Boston. It'll be nice to check out if those rumors are true," Waggoner quips.
An alumnus of Northeastern University,
Waggoner previously was a senior editor at
The Independent Investor.
