1,205 fundsters are descending on Palm Desert, California this week for the
ICI's and Federal Bar Association's 2015
Mutual Funds and Investment Management Conference, and the festivities kicked off tonight.
The Investment Company Institute has hosted the annual conference since 1996. This year's event is at the JW Marriott Desert Springs resort and runs through late morning on Wednesday, March 18. It coincides with the
BNP Paribas Open in nearby Indian Wells, which began on March 9 and concludes on March 22.
This year is the 75th anniversary of the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and of the ICI itself (then called the
National Committee of Investment Companies), and that anniversary hangs in the air at the MFIM conference.
SEC commissioner
Michael Piwowar is scheduled to give the keynote address tomorrow morning. ICI general counsel
David Blass, who joined in September, will also speak.
Sponsors of this year's MFIM conference include:
Brown Brothers Harriman,
Bloomberg for Enterprise,
Command Financial,
Confluence,
Gunn, Steers & Company,
McGladrey, and
US Bancorp Fund Services.
