A Midwestern liquid alternatives mutual fund shop is expanding its distribution force.
Kevin Kinzie, CEO and founder of
LoCorr Funds [
profile], confirms that he recently added three wholesalers to his 14-wholesaler team, and he's looking for three more. He's also filling national accounts, product development, and corporate positions.
One of the three open wholesaling positions is in the RIA channel. LoCorr added that a year ago as a separate effort, and divided the country in three.
Andy Beilke is covering the middle of the country, and
Peter Tamburrino recently
joined to the eastern U.S. in the RIA channel. Kinzie describes the RIA channel as "a logical expansion" of LoCorr's business.
"We'll add a third person sometime this year to cover the West Coast," Kinzie tells
MFWire.
The other two open wholesaling positions are in LoCorr's traditional broker-dealer channel. Kinzie recently
hired David Cohen to cover the Mid-Atlantic and
Joshua Davis to cover the Pacific Northwest.
"We'll probably add two more by year-end," Kinzie says, pointing to the Louisiana/Oklahoma/Texas area as the likely spot for the next two traditional B-D channel wholesaler hires at LoCorr. "We believe we have the largest dedicated distribution force in the country dedicated to low-correlating assets."
In product development, Kinzie recently
Cohen, an alumnus of Ithaca College, most recently served as a vice president and advisor consultant at
RevenueShares.
MFWire could not immediately reach a RevenueShares spokesperson for comment on how Cohen's duties are being handled.
Prior to RevenueShares, Cohen worked at Symetra, Sentinel Investments, the Hartford, State Street, J.P. Morgan, Lazard Freres, Neuberger Berman, and Cowne & Co.
Portland, Oregon-based
Davis is an alumnus of Seattle Pacific University. He most recently served as a regional director on the West Coast for
Driehaus Capital Management.
MFWire could not immediately reach a Driehaus spokesperson for comment on how Davis' duties are being handled.
Prior to Driehaus, Davis worked with Gresham and Equinox. He's also a former Morgan Stanley advisor and complex sales manager.
Philadelphia-based
Tamburrino is an alumnus of Penn State. He most recently served as a regional vice president at Equinox Funds.
MFWire could not immediately reach an Equinox spokesperson for comment on how Tamburrino's duties are being handled.
Prior to Equinox, Tamburrino worked with PNC Investments, ING, American Express, and Vanguard.
LoCorr launched in 2002. As the name suggests, LoCorr specializes in "low-correlating assets." The shop launched its first mutual fund earlier this decade. It now manages "a little over $1 billion" and offers five mutual funds.
"We'll be adding one more this year," Kinzie says.
