Norm Champ is leaving the Securities and Exchange Commission (
SEC).
Today SEC chair
Mary Jo White confirms that Champ, director of the division investment management, will move on this month. There's no word as of yet on who might fill Champ's shoes.
The SEC says that Champ will be a visiting scholar this spring at Harvard Law School. He already lectures there every two years for a course on investment management law.
Champ joined the SEC five years ago, rising shortly thereafter to deputy director of the regulatory agency's office of compliance inspections and examinations. He
took over as director of the investment management division in 2012.
An alumnus of Princeton and King's College University of London, as well as Harvard, Champ previously served as general counsel at Chilton Investment Company. He also worked for the law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell and clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Charles Haight in the Southern District of New York.
