A photography collection of one of the pioneers of the mutual fund industry is for sale.
The
Associated Press reports that on Thursday Sotheby's will auction off 175 photographs from the collection of
Howard Stein, the Brooklyn native and former CEO of
Dreyfus [
profile] who
died three years ago.
The auction house estimates that the photographs will go for $13 million to $20 million, its highest ever estimate for a photography auction. A single picture, Alfred Stieglitz's "Out of Window" (1915), is estimated at $400,000 to $600,000. The proceeds will benefit the
Joy of Giving Something, a nonprofit Stein founded that "supports photographic arts and arts education."
