Walt Bettinger is leaving
Charles Schwab's [
profile] heart in San Francisco ... yet it sounds like the rest of Schwab's body will continue to move elsewhere.
Rumors about Schwab's headquarters leaving the Bay Area have circulated
for years, with both
Bettinger and
Chuck Schwab himself both
fanning the
flames with various comments about Schwab's big presence in
Austin and Denver.
Mark Calvey of the
San Francisco Business Times tackled the issue again this week. Bettinger insists that the discount brokerage giant (which is also an RIA custody titan, a mutual fund shop and 401(k) recordkeeper) is "very happy" being headquarter in San Francisco, calling it "a wonderful location."
"We don't have any anticipation of moving our headquarters from San Francisco," Bettinger reportedly said.
Yet Schwab is moving 1,000 jobs out of San Francisco, to the likes of Austin and Denver. So stay tuned.
