Its official: there's a new sheriff in market town.
Mary Jo White has been confirmed by the Senate to be the new chairman of the
Securities and Exchange Commission, according to a
Reuters report.
Following what was generally considered an easy confirmation process, White replaces Mary Schapiro, who resigned last year.
The story did note that this vote only confirms White to finish Schapiro's unfinished term, which runs through June 2014. President Barack Obama has also nominated her for a full five-year term, which will take a separate vote at a later date.
The news was also covered in
The Associated Press,
Politico and the
Wall Street Journal.
