Jack McCarthy, a former
Lord Abbett PM who worked at the firm for 32 years,
died at age 85 after a "short illness," on Jan. 23, according to an obituary published in
Bloomberg.
The World War II veteran began at the firm as a research analyst in 1960, eventually becoming CIO and the co-managing partner. He also PMed the
Affiliated Fund.
He was known as a great optimist, a raging bull, a contrarian, always looking for outward signs of change in the markets, said his son
Stephen McCarthy, a senior vice president at
KCG Capital Advisors.
Lord Abbett placed an obituary in the
New York Times last week.
