Franklin Templeton Unveils New Tool for Advisors

Reported by Tommy Fernandez

Franklin Templeton Investments has unveiled a new online tool for creating hypothetical presentations, “Advantage Hypotheticals.”  The tool, available only to financial advisors, allows each user to build hypotheticals of Franklin, Templeton and Mutual Series funds, as well as funds from other fund companies in a single report.

According to the company, Advantage Hypotheticals has a four-step process:
1.     Financial advisors select the investments, which can include Franklin Templeton funds, market indices or funds from other firms to include in their client’s portfolio.
2.     To build the hypothetical, the advisor provides specific parameters such as investment amount, time periods and distribution instructions.
3.     To evaluate the results, each advisor reviews a detailed analysis which includes performance, portfolio holdings, correlation, diversification, Alpha, Beta, capture ratios, risk comparison, and fund-by-fund investment details.
4.     A simple click creates a client-ready presentation that is customized with the financial advisor’s contact information, their client’s name and the report components the advisor selected.

“Advantage Hypotheticals is a new tool financial advisors can use to produce a meaningful presentation for use with clients when making portfolio or fund recommendations,” stated David McSpadden, senior vice president of Global Advisory Services.

“Typically, these tools limit the advisor to only the funds offered by the firm that owns the tool," he added. "Our tool is different in that it lets the advisor build a comprehensive portfolio from the entire universe of retail mutual funds available to U.S. investors, regardless of the fund family.  The resulting report can also be tailored to include as much analytical detail as the advisor believes the client will want to see.”
