Can TDFs be improved? That’s the question columnist Felix Salmon is asking in his recent piece on
Reuters.
Salmon says he thinks TDFs should be added to the list of financial advancements that have been good for society, joining a select club that some say includes only the ATM.
He thinks, though, that the current “gold standard” of
Vanguard’s [

Vineer Bhansali, who runs TDFs for
Pimco [

The other player is
Wealthfront, which recently hired
Burton Malkiel to be chief investment officer.
Salmon’s column is very long and somewhat wonky. Still, if you’re a TDF maven looking for where the business might be headed, it’s worth taking some time to wrap your head around.
