State Street Research & Management Company has hired Edward P. Dowd as a vice president and portfolio manager with the large-cap growth team. He will report to Jeff Lindsey, managing director and head of the mid and large-cap growth team.

Dowd was formerly an equity analyst for Boston-based Independence Investment where he served as the technology sector leader responsible for generating investment ideas and recommendations within the technology sector. Previously, he was an equity research associate for Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette covering electric utilities. He began his career at HSBC Securities Inc, where he served as a vice president for Institutional Fixed Income Sales.

"Ed's experience as a fundamental analyst and his expertise in technology companies will be a tremendous addition to our large-cap growth investment efforts," said Lindsey. "I am confident that he will add significant value to the growth team by leveraging his extensive research experience."
