just named eight new wholesalers. He's hired five new Putnam Investment
] external wholesalers and promoted three internals since late 2011.
Of the eight roles, six are new positions for the team. The recent hires and promotions bring the size of Putnam's external wholesaling team to approximately 60.
The dramatic growth of Putnam's retail distribution team -- 20 percent, according to Putnam spokesman Jon Goldstein -- reflects Putnam's desire to increase their in-market focus on specific areas including Tenessee, Kentucky, Oregon, Virginia, Louisiana and Northern Texas. "[The hiring] stems in part from a renewed interest in Putnam and what it's been bringing out to the market both from a product and thought leadership standpoint in the last few years since Bob Reynolds joined the firm as CEO," Goldstein said.
The five outside hires consist of Daniel Greene
and Chad Kastner
from Sun Life Financial Distributors
, Joseph McMenamin
from Hatteras Funds
, Rachel Moran
from Dreyfus Investments
and David Taylor
from Edward Jones Investments
. External hires were selected based on their long careers as distribution professionals within the asset management sphere, Goldstein said.
According to Alexi Maravel of Sun Life, Greene and Kastner were wholesalers for Sun Life's variable annuity business, which was closed on Dec. 31, 2011.
Putnam sees further additions to its team as a "distinct possibility" depending on Putnam's growth as a firm.
"As we continue to see opportunity, we'll continue to evaluate how we're represented in-market," Goldstein said.
