Ronald L. Skates has joined the board of directors of State Street Bank and Trust Company, said David A. Spina, chairman and chief executive officer today. Skates brings experience technology experience to the board of the firm.

Skates, age 61, was president and chief executive officer of Data General Corporation from 1989 to 1999.

"Ron's experience in technology and finance is well-aligned with State Street's strategic focus," said Spina. "We are delighted to welcome Ron to the Board of Directors."

Skates is active in Boston, sitting on the boards of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Peabody Essex Museum. He earned both an undergraduate degree in history and an MBA from Harvard University.
