| Jim Rothenberg Capital Research and Management Vice Chairman | |
Famously quiet, taciturn or just plain media-phobic, the top executives at
Capital Group [
see profile] have sailed a consistent course at
American Funds. They advertise to their client -- the advisor -- and shun the media. They do not let their PMs become the stars of the show and they use their funds' heft to relentlessly innovate their distribution.
Yet even well-executed plans sometimes are mis-timed. For the first time in years investors and advisors are questioning American Funds and slowly pulling assets.
Jim Rothenberg is choosing to wait for the changing moon and is sticking to the plan. In his first media interview in five years he told
Bloomberg that:
"There are a lot of things we could do to grow sales. But we won't do them."
Enough said.
