Can Deutsche's ETFs Cross the Atlantic?
From Wall Street Journal
Deutsche Bank's offering of eleven actively-managed, exchange-traded funds in Germany has the Journal speculating on whether such products would fly in the United States. Lawyer Kathleen Moriarty from New York's Carter, Ledyard & Milburn says everyone is watching. The article also claims that regulators at the Securities and Exchange Commission are not convinced that actively managed ETFs will fly here and that if they are approval will take up to a year or more. So far Deutsche Bank's new funds are doing well: "Volume in this week's initial trading of the new ETFs has been climbing day by day, reaching eight million euros ($6.8 million) Wednesday, double Monday's level," reports the article.

What Are Heartland's Funds Worth?
From Wall Street Journal
The debacle in Heartland's bond funds continues to draw lawsuits and media ink. The funds NAV is still fluctuating widely for a bond fund, and continuing to cause confusion. Now, questions are over whether the funds NAV were underreported after they were slashed by 70 and 44 percent on October 13. Since then the NAV's have risen 24 percent and 7.5 percent. The gains apparently come after some illiquid positions were sold at higher than estimated prices. The two funds still hold roughly $50 million in assets.

Dot-gone?
From Investor's Business Daily
Another article reports on the struggles of funds specializing in Internet stocks. It's been bleak for Internet funds, too. Once again, the closing of de Leon Internet 100 is covered. It also reports that Investors Capital Internet & Technology (a new name by the way) has gone to 50 percent cash from 12 percent last month. Even larger complexes are changing tactics, the Strong Internet Fund has sold positions in Priceline.com, Yahoo and CMGI to buy infrastucture stocks AOL, Applied Micro Circuits and Check Point Software.
