Not every fund firm is responding to the recession by cutting back. Key's Victory Funds unit is taking the opposite tact and beefing up its sales efforts instead. The firm has hired two senior wholesalers to build advisor and defined contribution business in two new regions, the Southeast and the Midwest.

The firm has tapped Marcus Faller and Mike Kinney to build sales in the regions. Faller is Victory Funds' first wholesaler completely dedicated to the Southeast and will cover Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Puerto Rico from his base in Florida. Kinney covers Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Nebraska and Kansas from his base in Denver.
