Relative newcomer GlobalX Funds registered four metal-backed ETFs with the SEC Monday. The Global X Copper Miners ETF, Global X Gold Miners ETF, Global X Platinum Miners ETF and the Global X Silver Miners ETF will be managed by Bruno del Ama and Jose Gonzalez.

Global X currently offers eight mutual funds, six of which invest exclusively in China.

Recently, metal ETFs have been one of the more popular ETF categories, along with emerging market ETFs, which were the top performing class in 2009. The Wall Street Journal Friday picked up on the recent success of other metal-based funds, the Physical Platinum Shares and Physical Palladium Shares, from ETF Securities.
